Collect’O – Sampling #6

Event details

With the first major storm of this winter about to hit Montreal (*), we are counting on the help of our participants to make sure we sample this important event! The collection will take place according to the following schedule:

Collector installation scheduleSunday, January 16, before 9pm
Collector removal scheduleTuesday, January 18, between 7am and 10am
Melted snow bottling scheduleTuesday, January 18, between 4pm and 8pm

Large amounts of snow are expected (*). We therefore ask you to use the large Collect’O bottles that are at your disposal.

(*) If you want to learn more about this system, we advise you to read this article from MétéoMédia.

Sampling protocol

We kindly ask you to follow the following protocol in order to proceed with your sampling.

  1. At the time of installation of the collector, remove the cap from your collector and install it on its stake.
  2. At removal time, screw the cap back onto your collector and then pull it back in.
  3. Place your collector on a flat surface, away from any heat source, for a few hours.
  4. At bottling time, remove the cap, then pour the melted snow into the Collect’O bottle using the funnel provided.
  5. Be sure to screw the cap on your bottle tightly, then store it in the shade at room temperature.

Information about your sampling

To make it easier for us to contact you and get more information about how your sampling went (which helps us greatly in interpreting our results!), please fill out the following form at the end of your collection.

Deposit of samples

/!\ Due to the sanitary measures currently in place, it will not be possible to enter the UQAM building if you do not have a student or staff card. We therefore ask that concerned participants keep their samples at home until the situation returns to normal.

For UQAM members, bottles should be deposited in the entrance of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department (PK-6150, 6th floor next to the elevators). This entrance is accessible from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

However, if it is easier for you to drop off your bottles outside of these hours and the entrance to the department is closed, it is also possible to pour them into the document chute in front of the department entrance. Your bottles will then be redirected by the secretariat to our usual drop-off location. You can access the document chute during UQAM’s opening hours, from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
